Remembrance Day 2024- a

It’s Remembrance Day in The Netherlands.
For the first time in years I am lost for words.
So much pain in the world,
so many people thinking they are better than others,

Our family lost members
in the resistance, during bombardements,
because of hunger and lack of medical care.
Others survived the war,
but couldn’t deal with the memories.
An uncle committed suicide
because he was unable to deal
with the daily burden of memories.

The threat of a war here
the stories within my family,
and all that is happening in the world,
their pain is so close.

I have no words,

They say: no more!!
No concentration camps,
no innnocent victims,

They don’t realize
It’s happening again,
every day
at many places in the world.

So no nice poem,
just my silence.
Not only during 2 minutes,
but day after day after day.
